Barnsley schoolboy completes Three Peaks challenge for hospice

A Barnsley schoolboy was part of a group of fundraisers who took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge to raise money for the hospice.

Mason Coles, 10, was the youngest member of the nine-strong Little and Large team who climbed Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours on Saturday 18 May. Mason, who is a pupil at Holy Trinity School in Athersley, has raised £580 for the hospice.

Mason’s dad, Gavin Coles, said: “It made me so proud and emotional – he took it all in his stride. People we passed were shocked when they saw someone of Mason’s age doing the Three Peaks – many of them donated on the spot when they found out what he was doing. He is an exceptional young man.”

Little and Large Charity Challenges is a group set up by the Coles family and friends to raise money for the hospice. They are now sponsored by Barnsley-based roofing contractor K. Waddington & Sons. For more information, visit their Facebook page.
