Snowdon Sunset Trek

What is the Snowdon Sunset Trek?

Take part in a once in a lifetime challenge and experience the beauty of Snowdon at sunset to raise funds for Barnsley Hospice.

Take on all 1,085 metres of the highest mountain in England and Wales and experience the stunning colour changes as the sun sets over Snowdonia National Park. Starting your trek in the evening not only allows you to catch the sunset, but you’ll also come down the mountain at a much quieter time, underneath the star-filled sky.

How can I get involved?

We have not yet announced our Snowdon Sunset 2024 date, but you can register your interest now by completing the form below. A member of the Fundraising team will then be in touch and let you know as soon as the date is announced.

If you want to go ahead and accept the challenge, you will need to pay a £25 deposit to secure your place. It’s then over to you to raise the minimum £200 sponsorship required, and get those training walks in ahead of the big day!

What’s included in the challenge?

The trek will be led by a certified local mountain leader and your team will be accompanied by full backup support including first-aid qualified staff and first-aid supplies. You will also be provided with a training guide leading up to the trek to ensure you’re all ready to take on Snowdon!

If you’d like to find out more about the challenge or speak to our Fundraising team directly, please call 01226 244244, or email fundraising@barnsley-hospice.org.uk

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do I need to raise?

In addition to the £25 deposit to secure your place, we ask all participants to raise a minimum of £200 sponsorship for the hospice.

Do I need to pay for my place?

No, the cost of your place will be covered by the sponsorship you raise.

How do I pay the deposit?

Your deposit can be made via our Make a Donation page. Please make sure you list the reason for the donation as ‘Snowdon Sunset Trek’ and include your name so we know what it’s for.

Can I do it in a team?

Absolutely, you can take on the challenge with your friends or family. We do ask that if you are taking on the challenge as a group, you still register your interest individually and pay your deposits separately so we can confirm numbers and ensure you all have a place.

How do I raise the sponsorship?

This part is up to you! You can download one of our sponsorship forms if you’d like to collect it in person. Alternatively, our team can help you set up a JustGiving page connected to the hospice which can be shared via text and social media.

How do I give my sponsorship money to the hospice?

We would recommend creating a JustGiving page using our link so that all money raised is given straight to the hospice which is more convenient for you. If you collect any cash donations for your fundraising efforts, this can be brought into the hospice.

What do I need to take?

All the necessary clothing and equipment will be included on a kit list provided once your space is confirmed.

Do I need to train for the challenge?

The Sunset Trek is graded as ‘Medium to Challenging’, and is a great intro to mountain trekking. A good level of fitness is required and will make the experience more enjoyable.
