Our ten-bed Inpatient Unit provides outstanding care for patients with a life-limiting, progressive illness, who are finding it difficult to get their symptoms under control, as well as for people who are entering their last days of life. We treat each person in our care with dignity and respect and our multidisciplinary team work hard to provide the best possible care, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
What We Offer
We provide individualised care for ten inpatients in a warm, welcoming environment. All patient rooms are single and offer access to the gardens.
You will be assessed by the nursing and medical team who will discuss a treatment and care plan with you. They will involve other members of the multidisciplinary team as required to meet your needs.
Our Facilities
The ten Inpatient Unit bedrooms were refurbished in spring 2019 to enable the Hospice to provide the highest standard of patient care in a calm and comfortable environment.
The facilities include:
- En-suite toilets and washing facilities
- Individual climate control
- TV, wireless headphones and access to the internet as required
We have a number of other facilities for patients and their families including:
- A quiet room
- Lounge area with kitchenette
- Access to food and drink for relatives and visitors
- Overnight stay room/family room for relatives
Our Team
You will be cared for by a team of highly skilled doctors and nurses, working closely with other members of our multidisciplinary team including Physiotherapy, Social Work, Family Care, Spiritual Care and Complementary Therapies. They will treat all the information they have about you in strict confidence.
We have a weekly multidisciplinary team meeting where we discuss each patient to ensure that we are meeting their individual needs.
How We Can Help
We can help with all aspects of symptom management, offering physical, psychological, emotional spiritual and social support. The average length of stay in our Inpatient Unit is around 14 days, but this can vary depending on individual needs.
The Hospice is unable to provide long-term care. The team will work with you and your family or carer when planning your discharge and will involve your GP, district nurses and any other services you may need.
We have open visiting hours. Enquiries about your care should be made through the Hospice reception by calling 01226 244244. Calls will then be transferred to the nurses caring for you. We will only give information to the people you want us to.
