The Inpatient Unit is open 24 hours a day, 52 weeks a year.
The Inpatient Unit includes ten en-suite bedrooms, of which six have showers. The rooms all open onto a patio area with tables, chairs and a selection of plants. Each bedroom has a TV and DVD player. Arrangements can be made for you to use the internet should you wish.
There’s a Patients’ Lounge with kitchenette and coffee machine – an ideal space for relaxing with family and friends and also a quiet spiritual room and a family room where children can watch television, play with toys or read.
The ward is staffed by specialist consultants, doctors and nurses who work as part of a multi-professional team.
We work closely with our NHS colleagues and other palliative care providers in the hospital and community, such as Macmillan and district nurses, GPs and the hospital nursing and medical teams. This guarantees a comprehensive service to patients whilst ensuring the care given between home, hospital and Hospice is as seamless as possible, with discharge being planned for, where appropriate.
There are other services available at the Hospice to help support patients and their families, including counsellors, a family support team, complementary therapists, discharge coordinator, social workers and spiritual adviser.
The Hospice also offers an out-of-hours telephone advice line for professionals and patients/carers.
The Inpatient Unit bedrooms are currently undergoing a six-month refurbishment to allow the Hospice to provide the highest standard of patient care. The refurb includes specialist beds, new furniture and décor, new doors and windows with integral blinds, new en-suite wet rooms, air conditioning and new flooring. There will also be a designated overnight stay room for family members.
