The hospice has appointed a clinical education and audit lead to oversee staff training.

Julie Challenger has taken up the post following a nursing career spanning four decades.

Julie, from Goole in East Yorkshire, has over 40 years’ experience in nursing and palliative care roles, having previously worked as a nurse for Goole District Hospital and in the community in West Yorkshire as a Macmillan nurse.

More recently, Julie worked for an NHS Foundation Trust as the end of life clinical coordinator for acute hospitals, educating general clinical staff about caring for patients at the end of their life.

In her role as clinical education and audit lead, Julie will support the executive and HR teams in providing education programmes for all clinical staff.

Julie said: “I’m thrilled to join Barnsley Hospice and build on the great work within education and auditing that has already taken place.

“The hospice is such a nice place to work and there’s a supportive environment, with everyone committed to providing high standards of patient care. I’m looking forward to supporting the clinical staff at the hospice to reach their full potential.”
