What is Tai Chi?
Tai Chi is an ancient form of Chinese martial arts. While initially developed for combat and self-defence it involves gentle, low-impact, flowing movements while focusing on good posture and deep breathing. Tai Chi is sometimes referred to as ‘shadow boxing’ or ‘meditation in motion’.
How does it help?
Regular practice of Tai Chi encourages good posture and can help to improve balance, strength and flexibility. It is a dynamic form of relaxation, and the overall effect may reduce stress and physical tension. Tai Chi is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels as the movements can be adapted to individual’s abilities. All exercises in this video are demonstrated standing but can also be performed seating or however is most comfortable to you.
How often should I do it?
As this is a physical practice, we recommend only doing what feels right to you and stop if you find any of the exercises straining or painful. In this video, each exercise with be demonstrated and explained to you, we then suggest repeating the movement 3-4 times or what feels best for you.
