Dedicate a Dragonfly in memory of someone you love
Throughout our Dragonfly Appeal, you can dedicate a handcrafted steel dragonfly in memory of someone you love, a personal tribute you get to keep forever.
Your dragonfly will then take flight in our Wings of Memory art installation at Cannon Hall Walled Gardens, each one representing the memory of someone you love. Once the installation comes to an end it becomes yours to keep forever – a lasting piece of Yorkshire art and a meaningful reminder of someone special, all while helping support Barnsley Hospice and the palliative and end of life care we provide.
‘Wings of Memory’ Art Installation
Our ‘Wings of Memory’ installation will see Cannon Hall Walled Gardens transformed into a peaceful space of reflection, featuring hundreds of handcrafted steel dragonflies, each dedicated in memory of a loved one. Visitors are invited to explore the display, celebrate memories and take a moment to reflect, with every dedication helping to support the specialist palliative and end of life care provided by Barnsley Hospice.
Each dedication of £49 or over will receive:
-
- A handcrafted steel dragonfly – which is yours to keep forever after the installation.
-
- Open Access to Cannon Hall Walled Gardens throughout the installation
-
- An invitation to our launch event to open the installation
£49 Minimum Suggested Donation per Dragonfly
Dragonflies are often seen as symbols of reassurance – gentle reminders that the people we love are never far away. They represent transformation and reflection; in moments of grief, they can bring comfort and in moments of remembrance, they can bring peace.
Handcrafted by Local Sculptor, George Fell
Each dragonfly has been handcrafted by local sculptor and metalworker, George Fell, in his workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Every piece is individually made, meaning no two are the same – reflecting the unique memories they represent.
Mark is dedicating in memory of his Wife
Mark is a volunteer gardener here at the hospice. He chose to support us after his wife, Zena, spent her last days receiving care with us. Mark says “As a family we were so thankful the hospice was here to provide the care for my wife. The four days she was in the hospice was dignified and we were all so well looked after.”
Cannon Hall means so much to me, we used to love walking in the walled gardens. Having a dragonfly where we once sat together means everything, knowing it’s also helping support the hospice.
Mark, Volunteer Gardener
