Barnsley Hospice Abseil Returns – Sign up Today!

Ascend new heights with the return of the 100-foot abseil this May for Barnsley Hospice.

After last year’s inaugural fundraiser took place with nearly 60 daredevils descending down Barnsley College, the Barnsley Hospice Abseil is back bigger and better than before.

With stunning views from atop of the iconic red building sure to take your breath away, participants who brave the 100-foot drop will do so to the cheers and applause of fellow fundraisers and supporters.

Around £27,000 was raised last year to support the specialist palliative and end of life care the hospice provides and the hospice after more people to sign up and join in the fun.

Ella Beale, Head of Fundraising and Marketing at Barnsley Hospice said, “Last year’s abseil was truly amazing and we were so proud and grateful for each and every fundraiser who descended 100 feet for the hospice. We’re hoping this year is bigger and better than before. The atmosphere and camaraderie amongst everyone last year was really special, so if you’re thinking about doing something truly unique, then consider signing up to be part of another wonderful day.”

Barnsley College Principal and Chief Executive David Akeroyd said: “Barnsley College is thrilled to host Barnsley Hospice once again for this unique fundraising challenge – descending 100 feet down our Old Mill Lane campus.

“Many of our colleagues took part last year, raising thousands – and this year we’re hoping that even more people choose to brave the drop to support this vital local organisation.”

Date: Saturday 16 May 2026
Timings: 9:30 am to 4 pm (you will be assigned a time slot)
Meeting point: Barnsley College, Old Mill Lane Campus
Registration and sponsorship: Registration fee is £30 and you must raise a minimum of £200 sponsorship.
