Ross Fletcher Becomes New CEO/Chief Nurse

Barnsley Hospice is pleased to announce Ross Fletcher as its new Chief Executive Officer/Chief Nurse.

Ross takes up the position following the planned retirement of Martine Tune, who held the position from October 2021.

Having joined the hospice in December 2022 initially as Director of Nursing, Ross then became Director of Clinical Services and Governance/Deputy CEO in February 2025.

Upon starting his new role as CEO/Chief Nurse, Ross said: “I know how much Barnsley Hospice means to the people in the town and it is my privilege and honour to become custodian of this beloved and vitally important organisation.

“I am excited and very much looking forward to continuing the great work completed under Martine’s stewardship. Whilst there are challenges ahead in terms of raising vital funds to keep our services going, I am genuinely excited at the impact we can have on the community as specialist providers of palliative and end of life care.

“As a registered nurse for more than 20 years, I know what it takes to deliver outstanding care and I will do my utmost to ensure we carry on flying the flag of Barnsley Hospice for Barnsley people.”

The hospice needs to raise roughly two-thirds of its income on average every year and Ross says the services it provides must be protected at all costs.

“We must bridge the gap between our running costs and funding. Whilst we will continue to campaign for a fairer funding model, I am hopeful the wonderful people of Barnsley will continue with their amazing fundraising efforts so we can carry on being there for our community.”
