Carers come together at ‘Care for a Cuppa’

As part of Carers Week 2025 (Monday 9 – Sunday 15 June), Barnsley Hospice invited unpaid carers of those with a progressive, life limiting illness to a coffee and cake event named ‘Care for a Cuppa’.

On Thursday 12 June, the free event held at The Orangery in Barnsley Hospice,  provided a chance for unpaid carers to enjoy a relaxing brew and have an informal chat with other likeminded individuals of similar experiences.

Rebecca Lambert, Head of Clinical Services and Quality Matron, said: “Our first ‘Care for a Cuppa’ was a huge success in that we saw lots of new faces as well as some of our regular service-users here at the hospice. As well as being wonderfully-attended, it was a relaxed and informal atmosphere that allowed unpaid carers to engage with other people in similar situations, and to ask us professionals for any help or advice.

“Carers Week has been the ideal opportunity to this first-of-its kind event, where we managed to gain a great insight into the needs of carers in the Barnsley community and also shine a spotlight on the vital role carers play in our society and the Barnsley community. Hopefully, we will be able to hold similar events to this in the not-too-distant future.”
