Golf Day raises over £10,000 FORE Barnsley Hospice

Barnsley Hospice’s annual Golf Day took place last Friday at Silkstone Golf Club. 22 teams competed for the top spot and helped make a difference to the specialist palliative and end of life care available in Barnsley.

After 18 holes in the bright sunshine, £10,296 was raised through team entries, a luxury raffle and donations on the day. This is the second year in a row that the Golf Day has surpassed five figures, after a record-breaking event last year for the hospice’s 30th anniversary.

The team from Smart Interiors finished in the top spot and donned green jackets in honour of the Masters Tournament tradition, while David Probyn and team took second place and ‘Bogey Pickers’ in third.

Simon Atkinson, Corporate Partnerships Manager at Barnsley Hospice, said “It was amazing to see so many familiar faces returning for another year, as well as other local businesses getting involved for the first time by entering a team or sponsoring a hole.

“The day is always an exciting event in our calendar, and a great chance to catch up with local businesses who support us throughout the year. But, most importantly, the player’s generosity makes a huge difference to the care and support we can deliver at the hospice. Every penny counts and we’re so grateful for their support year after year.”

This was also the 13th consecutive Golf Day to have been sponsored by Lifetime Financial Management, who themselves had a team on the course last Friday.

Ian Dickinson, CEO at Lifetime, said “Our 13th year as sponsor of the hospice fundraising Golf Day. It’s an honour to continue our support to such a vital community asset. I know I speak for the whole of Barnsley and offer thanks and praise as we are incredibly proud and grateful to Barnsley Hospice for the compassionate care they provide. We’re delighted to support their sponsorship activities and see the funds raised go towards vital patient care.”

Keep an eye on the hospice’s social media to find out how you can get involved with next year’s Golf Day. Barnsley Hospice’s fundraising work continues this weekend, as over 50 staff and supporters complete a 100 foot abseil down Barnsley College tomorrow.
