Barnsley Hospice’s 30 for 30 walk raises over £7,000 in celebration of 30th anniversary

On Saturday, April 6, more than 60 dedicated supporters, including hospice volunteers, trustees, staff, and community members, laced up their boots to trek either 10, 20, or 30 kilometres to fundraise for Barnsley Hospice. The walk, inspired by last year’s Mayor of Barnsley’s Boundary Walk, started and ended at the hospice, in celebration of the hospice’s 30th Anniversary.

Among the attendees were hospice patron Dan Jarvis MP and the Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr James Michael Stowe, who completed 30 km in commemoration of the three decades of specialist care the hospice has provided for the people of Barnsley.

Dan Jarvis, MP for Barnsley Central, said: “Barnsley Hospice holds a very special place in my heart and in the hearts of so many across our Town, and it was great to celebrate their 30th anniversary by lacing up my walking shoes and taking on their 30k walk”.

“The muddy conditions made things a bit challenging, but it was worth it knowing that we were raising money for the outstanding work the Hospice does”.

“Thank you to everyone who walked and everyone who donated, your generosity and kindness helps the Hospice provide vital specialist support and care to individuals and families during the most challenging times of their lives.”

The total funds raised so far have surpassed £7,000 and continue to climb.

Hospice trustee and keen walker, Ian Meade, planned the route and reflected on the success of the 30 for 30 walk: “We’re thrilled with the support from everyone who attended the 30 for 30 walk. It’s fantastic to see community members come together to celebrate our 30th anniversary and raise vital funds for the hospice.

“The event not only reflects the spirit of our hospice, but also highlights the commitment and enthusiasm of our staff, volunteers, trustees and local supporters.”
