Gav completes 24km trek in support of Barnsley Hospice!

Gav Coles is no stranger to trekking up a mountain, having undertaken several fundraising challenges for Barnsley Hospice over the last few years. However, his most recent effort, The Fan Dance Challenge, was arguably the most difficult to date.

The challenge is over 60 years old and has been used in the SAS selection process during this time. Now, many others embark on the challenge each year to test their endurance and raise money for good causes.

For this latest fundraiser, Gav was approached by Wortley Men’s Club, who have raised around £25,000 for the hospice over the last 10 years and hope to reach £30,000 in the hospice’s 30th year.

Gav completed the 24km trek through the Brecon Beacons carrying a 35lb rucksack on 6 January, raising £1,400 to help Wortley Men’s Club reach its £30k fundraising goal.

Vicky Stead, Community Relationships Manager, said: “Gav and the Wortley Men’s Club are both fantastic supporters of the hospice, and it’s great to see them team up to reach this £30,000 target for our 30th year.

“Our thanks go to Gav for raising these vital funds for the hospice, and we are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of Wortley Men’s Club.”
