Players from Barnsley Football Club have treated patients at Barnsley Hospice to a festive visit.

The first team were joined by new manager Gerhard Struber on their visit to the hospice in Gawber yesterday (19 December) to deliver Reds-themed Christmas gifts and chat with patients, relatives, staff and volunteers.

The visit takes place every Christmas and forms part of the club’s ongoing support of the hospice, which also includes a ‘takeover day’ of fundraising for the charity which this year took place when Barnsley played Leeds at Oakwell in September.

Julie Ferry, chief executive at the hospice, said: “Christmas is a special time and it’s no different here at the hospice. This is a great example of the Barnsley community working together to raise smiles and spirits for our patients and staff.

“We’re very grateful for the ongoing support we receive from Barnsley FC and it is wonderful to see so many players come along.”
