Great North Run

Do you want to set yourself a fitness goal for 2023? Taking part in the famous Great North Run gives you the opportunity to do something amazing for yourself AND raise funds for Barnsley Hospice. 

We have several charity places for the 13-mile run, and we are sure they will fill quickly. To sign up, you must make a deposit of £50 to secure your place and pledge to raise a minimum of £385 sponsorship for the hospice. 

What is the Great North Run? 

The Great North Run is a world-famous half-marathon, which has been an important date in the running calendar for over 40 years. The race begins in the centre of Newcastle and ends at the beautiful South Shields. You can find out more about the iconic run on the Great North Run website.

How do I sign up?

How much do I have to raise?

In addition to the £50 deposit you pay to secure your place, we ask all runners to raise a minimum of £385 for the hospice. 

Do I have to pay for your place?

No, the cost of your place is covered by the sponsorship you raise. 

How do I pay the deposit?

You can pay for your deposit on our Make a Donation page. Please be sure to include the reason for your donation, so that we know it is your deposit. 

How do I raise the sponsorship?

We are sure that friends and family will be pleased to support you in your fundraising efforts, however, the fundraising team are on hand to support you throughout the process. We recommend setting up a JustGiving page to collect sponsorship, which you can do using the link above. Alternatively, you can download a sponsorship form using the link further above the page. 

What happens if I get injured/ill and can’t run?

You will be given the option to defer your place to the following year. If you have any questions about this, please contact fundraising@barnsley-hospice.org

What happens once I have signed up?

After signing up, a member of the Fundraising team will be in touch to support you with your fundraising and provide further instruction with registering your Great North Run place. Our team will share with you a sponsorship form you can share to collect donations and a link to set up a JustGiving page. You also will be sent a Barnsley Hospice running vest for you to wear on the big day! 

Do you provide transport to the race?

We do not provide any transport for those taking part in the race. However, we give all our supporters the option of joining a WhatsApp group for fellow runners, so you may be able to discuss transport options with others taking part. 

Will anyone from Barnsley Hospice be there on the day?

Unfortunately, no members of staff from the hospice will be there on the day. However, we will be cheering you on and are on hand for any questions you may have in the run-up to the race.
