Families are being urged to join the first ever lantern walk to raise money for Barnsley Hospice.
The sponsored one-mile walk will take place in Locke Park on October 28 and will be led by a local samba band. Halloween-themed merchandise, and food and drink, will be available, and fancy dress and trick or treating will be encouraged. There will also be rides, arts and crafts, music, and pumpkin carving.
Entry to the walk is £8 per person or £25 per family of four. Entry includes a lantern, goody bag and fundraising pack.
Martyn Hughes, events fundraiser at Barnsley Hospice, said: “This is the first time we have organised a lantern walk and I am sure it will become a fixture of our fundraising calendar.
“As well as having a fun afternoon out with the family, people will be able to raise money for a cause that is close to the hearts of many.
“We would love families to join us to celebrate the life of a loved one, walk to support patient care, or simply be part of something special together as a family.”
Participants can arrive from 3:30pm and the walk will end at 6:30pm. Little walkers who raise £50 of more in sponsorship will be rewarded with a special Hospice Hero medal and certificate.
