Putting for patients as Golf Day returns

Posted 26 August 2020

There were smiles all round as our annual Golf Day went ahead after all – even though it looked a little different.

Originally planned for May, the event – kindly sponsored by Lifetime  – was moved to Friday 21st August after coronavirus regulations allowed outside team sport to begin again.

Silkstone Golf Club were once again our accommodating hosts, and they pulled out all the stops to work with us to ensure a safe environment for everyone taking part.

We tried to make it as ‘normal’ as possible in these strange times too, but with some changes in places to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Registration times were staggered (but of course, everyone still got chance to fuel up with a bacon butty) and the usual ‘shotgun’ start saw everyone start play at the same time, but from different holes.

The morning cuppas and evening presentations were the only things missing this year, but everyone celebrated individually at home and we’ll appreciate the communal pints and pies all the more in 2021!

Score cards were quarantined for 72 hours before the winners were worked out and we were delighted to crown the  Alhambra Centre  kings of the course. In second place were Smart Interiors and Kitch’s Clowns came in third. Congratulations to all of the teams who took part (we’ve given you all a shout-out below).

We’d like to say a huge thank you to Dodworth-based Lifetime, who sponsored the event for the eighth year running. We are truly grateful for this committed support.
Our thanks also go to hole sponsors Abbey Vets, Co-Op Funeral Care (Huddersfield Road) and accountants Seaman Herbert and Co; and to everyone who donated prizes for our fabulous raffle.

We’re delighted to announce that the Golf Day raised over £4500 for patient care and in a year that has seen so many events cancelled, we couldn’t be happier. Thank you to everyone who made the day so special.
Here’s to our terrific teams (take a bow!)
