Barnsley Hospice - Comfort, Care & Dignity

Many people have a misconception of the Hospice........ it’s not a depressing place, yes we do have some tears and sadness but mainly it is full of fun, laughter and life.

Here are the thoughts of Enid Blackburn and Shirley Poynter, both of whom have been volunteers on reception for over 15 years.

Enid says: - “I feel privileged to have been a very small cog in a very big wheel. I have encountered friendship, help and support from so many people involved in the day to day work of the Hospice and I have certainly got more out of being a volunteer receptionist than I have put into it.”

Shirley says: - “As the Hospice has grown in size the workload has increased tremendously creating much more varied duties and responsibilities………….. Because of the nature of the work within the Hospice good communication, respect and confidentiality are essential and I feel proud to be part of a team of very dedicated volunteers.”
