If you are a UK tax payer, using Gift Aid means that the Inland Revenue will contribute an extra 28p for every £1 you donate. This means that £10 can be turned into £12.80. Imagine what a difference that could make!
To qualify for Gift Aid, what you pay in tax must at least equal the amount we will claim in the tax year. For donations made before 6 April 2008 we claim 28p for each pound given. After this date and until 5 April 2011 we claim 25p from the Inland Revenue who then give a supplement of 3p on every pound. If in the future your circumstances change you can cancel this declaration. If you pay income tax at the higher rate you can claim further tax relief on your Self Assessment tax return by completing Section 19a. Quote Barnsley Hospice code HAD03PG to donate this extra amount.
